It's tough to do a Christmas song and give it enough of a fresh spin to really put it over, and several of the tracks on this Motown celebration of Christmas suffer from that very problem, but there are enough little moments here, like the Temptations' slow-burn version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," Marvin Gaye's odd "Purple Snowflakes," and the Funk Brothers' delightful instrumental take on "Winter Wonderland," to make this 14-song set worth checking out for the holidays. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
